Greetings everyone, my name is Rocío but you can call me "CHIO" if you'd like. I am 19 years old and was born and raised in what is now one of the most dangerous city in the border, Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México. I went to school in Nuevo Laredo until I was 10 years old and finished elementary school in the middle school right next to SAC--William Travis. Without any idea on how to speak english, I was faced with an english mentor in Pat Neff Middle School who knew how to speak German, French, Russian, English, Japanese but no Spanish! So I pretty much had no choice but to learn it. After I finished middle school, I went to Health Careers High School, a tiny magnet school in the heart of the medical center, where roughly 1,000 students attended. The competitiveness of this school brought out the best of me -- I am a hardworker and strive to go beyond my own expectations. One of the proudest moments in my life was the time I graduated from high school in 2004, for I was the first in my family to attend high school and head to college.
My mom, my dad, and my little brother are the most special people in my life. My 8 year old brother is one of the coolest persons ever, he and I have a wonderful relationship. I am currently in my 3rd semester at SAC and have barely completed enough hours to be considered a sophmore. I'm majoring in Nursing with the goal of attending UT Health Science Center and obtaining a Bachleor's in Nursing. My main goal is to work in Labor & Delivery and be chief nurse of the L&D unit. I'd like to also take additional courses after my bachleor's to become an anesthesiologist and work in the OR.
Among my hobbies are playing dominos and speed with my little brother, rollerblading, doing yoga, kickboxing, mountain climbing, running, listening to country music (can't get enough of Shania Twain), singing, watching Strong Medicine and once in a while, novelas. I enjoy being part of a team, and know I will always strive to go beyond my expectations so we can all make Phi Theta Kappa a wonderful chapter to remember.
